How do you say Thanksgiving in Spanish?
Thanksgiving is translated as "día de acción de gracias" and Thanksgiving dinner is "la cena de acción de gracias".
It's a very clumsy translation in my opinion (literally: "day of the action of thanks") but you have to say something in Spanish to describe it either in movies (a common topic in American cinema) and in the news ("the New York Stock Exchange is closed today because of Thanksgiving"). It's a strictly American custom which has no counterpart I know of in Spanish-speaking countries, so we're stuck with that phrase although I imagine that in the Spanglish-speaking parts of the USA it's just called "Thanksgiving" and Thanksgiving dinner is "la cena de Thanksgiving".
