more / less than: "más / menos que" or "más / menos de"

This one is tricky since you can't apply logic in order to choose whether to use "que" or "de". However, the following explanation should help you remember which one to use:

"más que" - used with almost everything

"más de" - think "numbers" - it's used when comparing something with numbers in it.

Examples:

Spanish

1. Yo como más que tú.

2. El sabe más que yo.

--

3. Tú comes menos que yo.

4. Yo sé menos que el.

--

5. Ella tiene más de 2 millones de dólares.

6. Nosotros bebemos más de 3 botellas de vino cada semana.

--

7. Tienen menos de 5 motos en el taller.

8. Tenemos menos de 700 clientes en esa zona.

English

1. I eat more than you.

2. He knows more than me.

--

3. You eat less than me.

4. I know less than him.

5. She has more than 2 million dollars.

6. We drink more than 3 bottles of wine every week.

--

7. They have less than 5 motorcycles in the shop.

8. We have less than 700 customers in that area.
