Spanish expression "a solas" meaning "alone" or "in private"
Maybe you already know that " estar solo/a" means " to be alone" as in the following examples:

1. No estás sola - yo estoy aquí contigo.
2. Estábamos solos en la playa - no había nadie más.
3. Quiero estar solo - ¡déjame en paz!
English
1. You aren't alone - I'm here with you.
2. We were alone at the beach - there was no one else there.
3. I want to be alone - leave me alone!
Well, there's a related expression you might not know which is "a solas" and although it can mean "alone", it has a connotation of "in private", or "without anyone else listening". Notice in the following examples that the expression is always "a solas" and has nothing to do with males or females (meaning something like "a solos" doesn't exist in Spanish):
