In San Fernando's car
It suddenly occurred to me this morning that the little phrase below is somewhat like Cockney rhyming slang. If a person were asked how he managed to arrive to some destination, the following conversation might take place:
A: ¿Cómo has venido? (How did you get here?)
B: En el coche de San Fernando.
and both speakers would be happy with that slightly humorous answer. But the full story is contained in the following well-known (at least in Spain - don't know about other countries) rhyme:
(Vamos) en el coche de San Fernando:
un ratito a pie y otro caminando
which translates literally (and loses both its rhyme and charm) as:
(Let's go) in San Fernando's car:
a little while on foot and another bit walking.
It's generally used in a humorous fashion. I've posted here just in case someone, someday tells that they "came in San Fernando's car".
