The Spanish verb "sobrar" meaning "being more than enough of something"
This is another one of those verbs where the definition doesn't necessarily match the translation. Look at these examples and you'll see how the "more than enough" idea is implied:
Spanish:
1. A Pepe le sobrará el dinero como tiene dos coches nuevos.
2. Me sobran los amigos en Nueva York.
3. Ya veo que yo sobro aquí en esta reunión.
4. Las mesas para la comida están preparadas pero sobra una.
English:
1. Pepe must have a lot of money since he has two new cars.
2. I've got tons of friends in New York.
3. I can see that I'm not needed in this meeting.
4. The tables are ready for the meal but there's one too many.
