Consult your pillow (Spanish idioms)
Today's short post is about a common Spanish idiom:
consultar con la almohada = sleep on it
If you know "almohada" means "pillow", you should be able to guess the literal meaning. Just as in the English version, the Spanish version is used when you need some time to think about something before making a decision. Here are a couple of examples:
1. Me han ofrecido un trabajo nuevo. No sé qué hacer. Tendré que consultarlo con la almohada.
2. No tienes que darme una contestación ahora. Consúltalo con la almohada y llámame mañana.
1. I've been offered a new job. I don't know what to do. I'll have to sleep on it.
2. You don't have to give me an answer now. Sleep on it and call me tomorrow.
