| On the left of the StartSpanish main window you can see the list of topics which range from the most basic grammar points (like masculine / feminine nouns) to the most advanced (such as the usage and formation of the past subjunctive). The right side of the screen explains the topic, after which you can do the related exercises (see below). This screenshot shows one of the basic topics. | |
| This screenshot shows one of the more advanced topics, the present subjunctive. | |
| Here you can see the beginning of the explanation of the topic about the past tense of -er and -ir verbs. The verb endings and some examples are shown at the beginning of the topic. | |
| In the same past tense topic, you can now see some example sentences of the past tense. All topics contain similar examples so that you can get an idea of how things work before going on to the exercises. | |
| This is one example of the exercises included in StartSpanish. The English is shown in the box above, and you type in the answer in Spanish in the middle box. The program will check your answer, and provide you with the correct one in the bottom box. Notice that your score is kept on the right hand side. | |
| When doing the exercises, you can click on the Vocab-Listen button and listen to the native speakers pronunciation of the words used in the exercises. This screen on the right side of the screenshot. | |
| In the Listening and Pronunciation sections, you can listen to verbs and other common vocabulary. You can also record yourself and compare your pronunciation to the native speakers. | |
| StartSpanish includes some basic dictation practice to help you with your listening and writing. It includes vocabulary, number and sentence dictations. | |
| The program allows you to keep a log file of your progress on the exercises to see where you need to spend more time. |
